Black Barbershop Health Initiative scheduled for Saturday in Evansville

Black barbershops have long been a vital part of the health and well-being of Black men, serving as a place of comfort and healing. This Saturday, the annual Indiana Black Barbershop Health Initiative will take place in Evansville, offering free health screenings and education on chronic diseases to the community. The event is a statewide effort aimed at providing important health resources to Black men in Indiana.

Statistics show that Black men in Indiana have the highest mortality rate of any group, with prostate cancer being more prevalent among this population than any other racial or ethnic group. Recognizing the importance of addressing these health disparities, the Black Barbershop Health Initiative aims to provide accessible health resources to the community.

The initiative will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at seven participating locations in Evansville, including Fila’s Designs, Jerald’s Barbershop, The Dapper Man’s Parlor, Lynch’s House of Coiffure, Going Forward Barber & Beauty Shop, Super Fresh, and Chinnos. This is an important opportunity for Black men in the community to prioritize their health and well-being by taking advantage of the free screenings and education offered at the event.
