Botswana proposes sending 20,000 elephants to Germany to regulate population through hunting

Botswana President Mokgweetsi Masisi has proposed sending 20 thousand elephants to Germany in response to the stricter restrictions on the import of hunting trophies into the country. The Botswana president believes that efforts to preserve wild animals only lead to impoverishment of Botswanans and an increase in the number of elephants. He also stated that hunting helps keep the elephant population under control.

President Masisi urged the Germans to try living with animals like Botswana does. Botswana is home to over 130 thousand elephants, making it the third country in the world in terms of elephant population. In previous years, Botswana has donated elephants to Angola and offered hundreds of elephants to Mozambique to help preserve their declining populations. President Masisi emphasized his sincere desire to gift elephants to Germany, stating that he was serious and would not accept no as an answer.
