Bowling Green, Kentucky has welcomed a new small business in the form of Sweaty Glass, owned by Shane Spickard. This is the second glass blowing studio of its kind in the state. The passion for glass blowing began for Spickard when he attended the Appalachian Center for Craft in Smithville, Tennessee.
Since then, he has been honing his skills and creating unique pieces using melted glass. Sweaty Glass is now located in a transformed garage that serves as Spickard’s personal glass-making factory. Here, he creates stunning glass cups, vases and other decorations that are truly mesmerizing to watch being made.
Spickard is not only an artist but also an educator. He offers classes for those interested in learning the art of glass blowing. The process of creating these pieces involves heating the glass to a high temperature, adding frit to create designs, and shaping them with various tools including wet newspaper and blowpipes. After smoothing out the edges with a torch, each piece is placed in a stove for 12 hours to cool down completely before it can be admired and enjoyed by its owner.
Sweaty Glass is located at 144 W 10th Avenue in Bowling Green and anyone interested in learning this beautiful art form should visit their website or call to book a class today!
