Dayton’s Ranking in College Basketball Slips After Loss to VCU, Drops Out of Top 25 And 1

In recent news, Dayton has lost its position as the top team in the Atlantic 10 after a 49-47 loss at VCU on Friday. This loss has cast doubt on whether they will win the outright conference championship they were presumed to get after a 13-game winning streak that extended across three months. Despite this setback, Dayton is still expected to be the only A-10 team to make it to the 2024 NCAA Tournament, as predicted by CBS Sports Bracketology Expert Jerry Palm.

The Flyers are currently one game behind Richmond in the league standings, with seven games left. The coach of Dayton, Anthony Grant, said that it was not a great night for the team after their close loss at VCU, in which they shot 36.2% from the field and gave VCU a lot of credit. However, he remains optimistic about their chances of winning the outright conference championship.

In Saturday morning’s updated CBS Sports Top 25 And 1 daily college basketball rankings, Dayton is now at No. 13, with Purdue remaining at No. 1 for the 30th consecutive day. The good news for Dayton is that their game against VCU was the last time they’ll play on the road against a top-75 team in the NET, meaning they should be favored in every remaining A-10 game. KenPom.com is still projecting them to win outright league championship but this race has become closer than most anticipated just two weeks ago due to this loss and other factors such as injuries and schedule changes.
