Police Officer in D.C. Confesses to Attempted Sexual Abuse at Health Spa

On August 26th, a D.C. police officer named Pearce Then pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree sexual abuse at a health spa in Northwest Washington. Previously, he had been charged with sexually abusing another member of the force in 2019, which the police chief at the time called a disgrace to the badge. The victim was also a D.C. police officer working in the 4th district station.

In exchange for his plea, federal prosecutors agreed to seek probation for Then, with no prison time. However, he will be required to register as a sex offender for a period to be determined by a judge. If convicted after a trial, he could have faced up to five years in prison.

Then’s attorney, Brian McDaniel, described the incident as a misunderstanding and stated that his client was glad to move past the matter. A D.C. police spokesperson confirmed that Then, who has been on the force since 2007, was on an indefinite suspension while awaiting trial. Judge Maribeth Raffinan is scheduled to sentence Then on August 30th
