In recent news, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s National Environmental Satellite, Data and Information Service has released the first of three reports on digital twin technologies. Commissioned as part of the Joint Venture Partnerships program in 2022, these reports aim to assess the maturity of Earth observation digital twin technology and its potential integration into NOAA systems and operations.
The Science and Technology Corporation authored the first report, which presents a prototype digital twin capability. This prototype aims to provide insights into costs, benefits, and technological requirements for digital twin technology. The remaining two reports, led by Orion Space Solutions and Lockheed Martin, are currently being prepared and are expected to be released later this fall. These reports will further contribute to the understanding and potential implementation of digital twin technology at NOAA.
