Grocer to Carry Virginia Tech Graduate’s Sauce

Two Hampton Roads Food Lion stores will carry a bottled red sauce produced by Virginia Tech graduate Tahjere Lewis starting next month. The sauce, known as Aunt Carol’s Sauce, was described in a 2021 story as a commercially available product created by Lewis from his family recipe. His entrepreneurship has continued since then.

Meanwhile, region winemakers are reopening their tasting rooms for the season. AmRhein’s Wine Cellars in Bent Mountain announced its tasting room will open April 6, while Villa Appalaccia Winery just off the Blue Ridge Parkway in Patrick County surpassed expectations at its opening March 15, co-owner Julie Block said. “We set records,” she said. “People are just itching to get back out.”

In other wine news, Stanburn Winery in Stuart announced on social media March 18 that it will close after the upcoming season.
