Near Naples, Florida, a business jet crashed on Highway I-75 at approximately 3:15pm local time. The Bombardier Challenger 600 jet, built in 2004 and registered as N823KD, was attempting to land at Naples Airport when it lost power in both engines.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the accident. Early reports suggest that the lack of engine power prompted the pilots to make an emergency landing just three miles from the airport.
As of 5:05pm, it has been confirmed that three people survived the crash while two individuals have been reported dead. It is currently unclear whether the deceased individuals were on the plane or on the ground. The investigation into this tragic accident is ongoing and further details will be released in due course.
