Al Horford, a Former Thunder player, plays a key role in Celtics’ victory against Mavericks in Game 1 of NBA Finals

The 2024 NBA Finals kicked off on Thursday with the Boston Celtics defeating the Dallas Mavericks 107-89 in Game 1, giving the Celtics a commanding 1-0 series lead. Despite the Oklahoma City Thunder being eliminated in the second round by the Mavericks, there is still representation from former players on both teams in the finals.

One of the former Thunder players, Al Horford, played a crucial role for the Celtics in Game 1 by starting the game and contributing 10 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two blocks in 30 minutes of play. Kristaps Porzingis, another former Thunder player, came off the bench for the Mavericks in his long-awaited return to action.

The Celtics were able to secure a victory in Game 1, giving them an opportunity to extend their series lead against the Mavericks on Sunday, June 9. Despite Porzingis’s strong performance coming off the bench, Svi Mykhailiuk saw some playing time and scored two points in garbage time.

Overall, it has been exciting to see former Thunder players making an impact on both teams during these NBA Finals. The talent that once wore the Thunder uniform is now shining on two of basketball’s biggest stages.
