New Chief of General Staff appointed as Zelensky continues army restructuring

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced another major reshuffle in the army as part of its restructuring. Generalmajor Anatolij Barhilewitsch will be the new Chief of General Staff, replacing Serhij Schaptala.

The appointment was made at the suggestion of the new commander-in-chief Olexander Sirskij, who follows Schaptala. Barhilevich is a seasoned professional with experience in leading troops in battle and navigating complex political environments. He is well-versed in Ukraine’s goals and the challenges it faces on the battlefield.

Zelenskiy praised Barhilevich’s skills and experience, saying that he is confident that he will excel in his new role. “Barhilevich is an experienced person who understands the tasks in this war and Ukraine’s goals,” Zelenskiy said in a video address on Friday evening.
