Petr Bystron, a far-right MP for the Alternative for Germany party, is facing an investigation by German prosecutors on charges of corruption and money-laundering. This action was taken after the Bundestag lifted his immunity from prosecution, following an investigation into the Voice of Europe, a pro-Russian propaganda platform that was sanctioned by Czech authorities in March.

The probe is linked to allegations that the Voice of Europe was involved in a “Russian influence operation” on behalf of Viktor Medvedchuk, a pro-Russian Ukrainian media figure. The Czech authorities claimed that the platform was used to pay politicians to promote pro-Kremlin messages in the lead-up to the European parliament elections in June. The Munich police and prosecution service stated that their investigation is centered on suspicions of corruption involving elected officials and money laundering.
