114-year-old man passes away just shy of his 115th birthday

Juan Vicente Perez Mora, who was recognized as the world’s oldest man in 2022, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 114. The news was announced by multiple media outlets and Venezuelan government officials.

Perez, a resident of El Cobre in Táchira state, Venezuela, held the Guinness Record for being the oldest man in the world when he was officially certified in February 2022. At that time, he was 112 years and 253 days old. Perez fathered 11 children and had a large family consisting of 41 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Born on May 27, 1909 as the ninth out of ten siblings, Perez was actively involved in agriculture from a young age. He began working with his father and brothers in sugar cane and coffee harvesting when he was just five years old. Throughout his long life, Perez experienced many changes and historical events, leaving behind a legacy that will be remembered by his family and the people of El Cobre.
