Introducing the Phyllis Wyeth Visionary Award for Excellence in Marine Science and Trades at Herring Gut Coastal Science Center

The Herring Gut Coastal Science Center in Port Clyde is honoring two individuals who have made significant contributions to aquatic science and marine trades with the Phyllis Wyeth Visionary Award. This award, established in 2023, embodies the center’s vision and the legacy of founder Phyllis Wyeth, who was inspired by her mother’s environmental activism and philanthropy.

Nominations for the award are being accepted from May 15 to June 30, with both external and self-nominations welcome. Eligible nominees must be part-time or full-time residents of Maine and have demonstrated significant contributions to the conservation and advancement of Maine’s aquatic environment and marine trades. They should be visionaries in areas such as innovation, marketing, distribution, habitat protection, marine science, marine trade education, or technology.

The recipients of this award will be chosen by an independent board comprised of Herring Gut community members and alumni. The winners will be announced at the An Evening of Fresh to Salt event on August 7 at Saltwater Fields in South Thomaston, ME. This award is made possible through a generous donation from The Wyeth Foundation.
