France Raids Huawei, Suspecting Breaches of Integrity_REFERENCE?

In a judicial procedure related to suspicions of breaches of probity, the offices of Chinese group Huawei in France were searched. The preliminary investigation was carried out by magistrates from the National Financial Prosecutor’s Office (PNF) in Boulogne-Billancourt (Hauts-de-Seine), near the Paris ring road. While details on the findings of the investigation remain unclear, Huawei continues to maintain a 20% share of the French telecoms infrastructure market despite facing strong restrictions.

Earlier this year, the French Anti-Corruption Agency reported possible abuse of corporate assets and tax fraud by Huawei, leading to a preliminary investigation opened in Nanterre. However, despite these allegations, Huawei is currently building a factory in Alsace aimed at starting production of equipment for mobile telecom networks, particularly 5G, by the end of 2025.

Despite claims that Huawei is able to spy for the benefit of Chinese authorities, which it has firmly contested, it remains the world’s leading equipment manufacturer for 5G. The European Commission also views Chinese telecom equipment suppliers, including Huawei, as a security risk to the European Union. In response to this risk assessment, EU member countries and telecom operators have been called upon by EU Commissioner for Internal Market to exclude Huawei’s equipment from their mobile networks.
