Iowa High School Athletes of the Year Honored at Sports Awards Ceremony

On Monday night at the Iowa High School Sports Awards, Derek Weisskopf from Williamsburg and Jaidyn Sellers from Panorama were named the Boys and Girls Athlete of the Year, respectively. The event, presented by SCHEELS, recognized over 250 student-athletes from Iowa.

Weisskopf was noted for his standout performances on the football field, earning numerous accolades such as being an ADIDAS All-American, Class 3A All-State Captain, District MVP, and more. He also excelled in basketball and track and field, earning state medals in both. As a four-star recruit, Weisskopf will be playing football for Iowa next year.

On the other hand, Sellers showed her versatility in excelling in multiple sports during her high school career. A standout sprinter in track and field, she won multiple state titles in various events and also stood out on the basketball court, leading her team to a state championship. Additionally, Sellers will be continuing her athletic career at Iowa for softball as an outfielder.

The Boys Athlete of the Year finalists included Brevin Doll of ADM and Dreshaun Ross of Fort Dodge. For the Girls Athlete of the Year awards finalists were Addison Dorenkamp of Valley and Payton Petersen of Dike-New Hartford. SCHEELS sponsored both awards as they recognized over 250 student-athletes from Iowa for their outstanding achievements on the sports field during their high school career.
