Teams of the Year Recognized at Iowa High School Sports Awards

The Southeast Polk football team and the Dike-New Hartford volleyball team were honored as the Boys and Girls Teams of the Year at the Iowa High School Sports Awards, presented by SCHEELS. This event took place at Hoyt-Sherman Place in Des Moines and recognized over 250 Iowa student-athletes.

In the Boys Team of the Year category, Southeast Polk’s football team emerged victorious, defeating Ankeny to secure their third consecutive state championship. Over the past three years, they have only suffered two losses and achieved a perfect 14-0 record this season, solidifying their place as one of the best large classification teams in Iowa history. On the other hand, Ames baseball and Des Moines Hoover soccer were also finalists in this category.

The Girls Team of the Year went to Dike-New Hartford volleyball team with an incredible 50-0 record. They dominated their competition by dropping only one set throughout the entire season against Dowling Catholic, a 5A state finalist. Led by Payton and Jadyn Petersen twins, they secured their first state championship since 2021 by defeating Hinton in the final. Their impressive performance has established them as one of the greatest teams in Iowa state history, winning by an average of over 11 points per set. Johnston basketball and North Scott volleyball were also finalists in this category.
