Celtics trounce Mavericks in the first game of the NBA Finals

In the opening game of the NBA Finals, Jaylen Brown led the Boston Celtics to a 107-89 victory over the Dallas Mavericks. The 27-year-old scored 22 points, and five of his teammates also reached double figures as they aim to claim their 18th title. However, it wasn’t just their offense that shone, as Boston’s defense was equally impressive, helping them establish a commanding 29-point lead in the first half at the TD Garden in Massachusetts.

Despite a strong performance from Mavericks star Luka Doncic, who finished with 30 points and 10 rebounds, Dallas found themselves trailing by eight points in the third quarter. Kristaps Porzingis made a successful return from injury for the Celtics, scoring 20 points and grabbing 11 rebounds against his former team after missing ten games with a calf injury during the playoffs.

While Doncic highlighted the need for his team to build on their potential and play their brand of basketball consistently, it was too late for Dallas to regain control of the game. Despite showing glimpses of their potential in the third quarter, they ultimately fell short in game one. However, it is important for them to find positives to build on heading into game two on Sunday at TD Garden in Boston. With only one defeat so far in NBA Finals history against this opponent, Boston is aware of its importance to maintain momentum and secure a 2-0 series lead against Dallas.
