Potential obstacles to Milan’s acquisition of Joshua Zirkzee

Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee, who has been a key target for Serie A side Milan this summer, is at risk of not joining the Rossoneri due to a dispute over agent commission. Despite coming close to finalizing a deal to bring the 23-year-old to the San Siro by meeting his €40M release clause, negotiations have hit a snag as Milan tries to negotiate a lower commission payment to Zirkzee’s super agent, Kia Joorabchian.

The dispute has led to an interest in Zirkzee from other Premier League and Juventus, with Joorabchian already having a strong relationship with Juventus’s Sporting Director, Cristian Giuntoli. This could work in their favor in potentially hijacking Milan’s move for Zirkzee.

Milan will have to navigate the challenge of agent commissions and competition from other clubs if they are to secure Zirkzee’s signature. In addition, Juventus are currently in talks with Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz, another client of Joorabchian, which could complicate Milan’s pursuit of Zirkzee.

Zirkzee made his move to Italy from Bayern Munich in 2022 and had a successful season with Bologna, scoring 11 league goals that helped secure the club’s first-ever qualification for the Champions League. If negotiations fail, Milan may have to look elsewhere for their summer signing needs as they continue their quest for success in Europe.
