DOH-Marion to Offer ‘Staying Healthy as You Age’ Class

The Florida Department of Health in Marion County (DOH-Marion) is hosting a “Staying Healthy as You Age” class for seniors aged 55 and over on Thursday, February 22, 2024. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to noon at the Marion Oaks Community Center, located at 280 Marion Oaks Lane in Ocala, FL 34473.

February is American Heart Month, a time to raise awareness about heart disease and promote prevention and treatment in the community. DOH-Marion encourages all Floridians to adopt a lifestyle that promotes heart health and well-being, including maintaining healthy cholesterol levels, adding physical activity into their weekly schedule, and eating nutritious foods that support a healthy cardiovascular system. Heart disease is the leading cause of death nationally as well as in Florida.

In partnership with Marion County Senior Services, DOH-Marion is offering this class to help seniors discover ways to promote healthy aging. The class will cover topics such as maintaining a positive attitude, following a nutritious diet, engaging in regular physical activity, getting regular medical check-ups, stimulating the brain with mental exercises, and leading an active social life.

Interested individuals do not need to register in advance for the class. For more information or to register, please contact Melissa Marino at 352-644-2624.
