Metsä Group Announces 100 Million Euro Investment Plan for Tissue Paper Factory in Mänttä

Metsä Group is planning a significant investment program to develop the operations of the Mänttä tissue paper mill. The company aims to modernize the mill and extend its life cycle through these investments. The size category of the planned investment program is approximately EUR 100 million, and the investments are planned to be implemented over the next five years.

The investment plans are part of the company’s tissue business’s Future Factory strategy program, which aims for world-class efficiency and environmental performance in tissue paper production. The company aims to develop the factory’s production and environmental efficiency by investing in modernizing paper machines and processing lines and improving energy and water efficiency. Their goal is long-term continuity of efficient local tissue paper manufacturing in Mänttä.

The first investment of the planned program is aimed at a new hand towel line, which will produce virgin fiber-based hand towel papers especially for the Finnish market. Preparations for the investment are starting, and the line is supposed to be operational in 2025. Joonas Kukkonen, Vice President, Supply Chain, Forest Tissue Finland and the Baltics states that local tissue manufacturing means local jobs and improves society’s sustainability. He adds that this investment program is a logical continuation of their ongoing Future Factory investment in Mariestad, Sweden, and their planned tissue factory investment in Great Britain as well as several other investments in their international factory network.
