Moran Iron Works (MIW), a renowned fabrication facility specializing in custom design and engineering solutions, has won a significant contract with SMS group for the production of two granulation basins. These basins, weighing 164,000 pounds each and measuring 59 feet high and 21 feet in diameter, are crucial for the process of granulating blast furnace slag to reduce carbon emissions in the cement industry. This new technology offers superior quality and lower emissions compared to traditional Portland-style cement, making it an environmentally friendly solution for reuse.

The project commenced in January 2024 and will involve the utilization of the High-Wire Corridor to transport the basins from Rogers City Port to their final destination on the Great Lakes. From there, they will be loaded onto a barge for shipment. This process showcases MIW’s expertise in fabrication and demonstrates their commitment to sustainable solutions in the construction industry.

The completed Granulation Basin from 2023 is currently being loaded onto a barge at Port Calcite in Rogers City. This project represents a significant step towards promoting environmentally friendly practices in the cement industry and highlights the importance of utilizing innovative technology to reduce carbon emissions and improve efficiency. MIW’s involvement in this project underscores their dedication to providing cutting-edge solutions for a more sustainable future.

Overall, this contract award marks a significant milestone for MIW as it reinforces their position as a leader in custom design and engineering solutions while also highlighting their commitment to sustainable practices. By working with SMS group on this project, MIW is able to showcase their expertise while also contributing to efforts towards reducing carbon emissions in the cement industry.
