New Commissioner Takes the Reins at the American Athletic Conference – NBC10 Philadelphia

The American Athletic Conference has announced the appointment of Tim Pernetti as its next commissioner, according to two sources close to the move. Pernetti, a former athletic director at Rutgers and current president of IMG Academy in Florida, is set to take on his new role following a period of change for the conference.

The AAC is currently undergoing changes, with SMU leaving for the Atlantic Coast Conference and Army joining as a football-only member. The conference will have 14 football members next season, including new additions such as North Texas, Rice, FAU, Charlotte, UAB, and UTSA. The AAC also boasts teams like Memphis, Temple, South Florida, Tulsa, East Carolina, Navy
