New York Yankees reveal 26-player roster for MLB Opening Day 2024

The Yankees are readying for the start of the 2024 season, with Opening Day set against the Houston Astros. Injuries to key players such as Gerrit Cole, DJ LeMahieu, and Oswald Peraza have caused changes to the projected 26-man roster. Manager Aaron Boone will rely on the best players from spring training and recent acquisitions to bolster the bench depth.

In the starting lineup, DJ LeMahieu will be absent due to a foot injury, with Berti taking his place at third base after being acquired in a trade from the Miami Marlins. The everyday starters remain largely intact.

On the bench, Wells will serve as the backup catcher behind Trevino, with Cabrera ready to play first base and also fill in as an outfielder if needed. With Rortvedt traded to the Tampa Bay Rays, Wells is now the lone backup catcher.

The rotation will see Gil taking over as the fifth starter in place of Cole’s spot. Cortes will be on Opening Day mound duties, hoping for a strong performance alongside Rodon. The success of this year’s rotation will determine Gil’s future with the team.

Weaver will begin his season in bullpen duties with Gil joining him in starting rotation duties. Boone hopes that these changes lead to a successful start for his team as they embark on their 2024 season journey.
