Blaney Tops Speed Charts in Cup Practice at Sonoma

Ryan Blaney led the way in Friday’s practice session at Sonoma Raceway, posting the fastest lap of 97.866 mph on the repaved road course. The new surface allowed for significantly faster speeds compared to last year, with Blaney’s lap being over 6 mph quicker than the best lap from the same session last year. Ty Gibbs followed closely behind in second place, with a top lap of 97.829 mph, while Will Brown ranked third in his Cup debut with a top lap of 97.617 mph in the No. 33 car for Richard Childress Racing.

Meanwhile, in the Xfinity Series, Shane van Gisbergen set the pace by posting the fastest lap during Friday’s practice session at Sonoma Raceway, reaching a top speed of 95.152 mph. Parker Kligerman finished in second place on the speed chart at 94.763 mph, but unfortunately Boris Said crashed during the session while driving the No. 17 car for Hendrick Motorsports. Xfinity qualifying is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, with the race taking place later that evening at 8 p.m. ET
