Convicted criminal with weapon arrested for firing gun in business

On Friday morning, just after 9 a.m., the Owensboro Police Department was called to a scene of gun violence on Triplett Street. A 38-year-old man from Owensboro had fired a gun inside a business, leaving the scene before officers arrived. However, detectives were able to locate the weapon in a garage on Chesterfield Drive, about ten minutes away from the location of the crime.

The suspect, Shane Nitman, was later arrested and booked into the Daviess County Jail. He faces charges of possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, receiving stolen property (firearm), tampering with physical evidence, and discharging a weapon in city limits. It is not yet clear which business was targeted by the shooting.

This incident serves as a reminder of the dangers posed by gun violence and the importance of responsible gun ownership.
