Beef exports from Peru to China have the potential to increase the economy by $3-4 billion

In June, Peru’s President Dina Boluarte is set to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping in China. The country’s agriculture minister, Angel Manero, revealed that discussions about beef exports to China are likely to be on the agenda during the meeting. According to a report by Reuters, the upcoming presidential summit is expected to cover 29 different topics, with a particular focus on trade between the two countries.

Speaking to reporters after a cabinet meeting at the national palace, Minister Manero stated that exporting beef to China could significantly benefit Peru’s economy, providing a boost of $3 billion to $4 billion. He also mentioned that it is an opportunity for both countries to expand their cooperation and strengthen their economic ties.

The visit from Chinese president Xi Jinping coincides with the inauguration of the Chancay megaport, which is being built on Peru’s Pacific coast by Hong Kong-based Cosco Shipping Ports. This port is expected to enhance future trade with Asia and provide new opportunities for businesses in both countries.

It is anticipated that Xi will be accompanied by around 20 other world leaders when he attends the APEC summit in Lima in November. The APEC trade forum will provide a platform for leaders from various countries to discuss trade issues and explore ways to promote economic growth and development in the region.
