Pittsburgh residents on Forbes’ 2024 list of the world’s billionaires

Pittsburgh has strong representation on Forbes’ annual list of the world’s billionaires, with several individuals with ties to the city making the cut. The 2024 list includes 2,781 billionaires with a combined net worth of $14.2 trillion. Each person’s wealth was calculated using stock prices and exchange rates from March 8, 2024.

Among those who made it to the list are three individuals with strong connections to Pittsburgh: Maggie Hardy, Mark Cuban, and David Tepper. Additionally, Thomas Tull and Ron Burkle, both with ties to Pittsburgh, also made the cut.

David Tepper ranked No. 94 on the list with a net worth of $20.6 billion. He founded Appaloosa Management in 1993 and owns the Carolina Panthers, as well as having roots in Pittsburgh’s Stanton Heights neighborhood. Mark Cuban, who grew up in Mt. Lebanon and attended the University of Pittsburgh, has a net worth of $5.4 billion and came in at No. 563 on the list after recently selling his majority stake in the Dallas Mavericks. Maggie Hardy, CEO of 84 Lumber since taking over from her father Joe Hardy in January 2023 after his passing at age 100 years old, holds a net worth of $4.1 billion and landed at spot No. 775 on the list
