Plant Growth Beyond Gravity: A Fascinating Discussion with Dr. Sarah Wyatt at the Science Café”.

Dr. Sarah Wyatt will be the featured speaker at the final Science Café event of the spring semester, taking place on Wednesday, April 3 at 5 p.m. at The Front Room Coffeehouse in Baker University Center. The event will also be live-streamed on YouTube, and free coffee coupons will be given to the first 50 attendees in person.

Dr. Wyatt’s presentation, titled “Growing (Plants) Beyond Gravity,” will delve into the role that gravity plays in plant growth and development. She will discuss how it affects the positioning of leaves, stems, roots, flowers, seeds, and fruits. Dr. Wyatt and her students will showcase their research on the effects of gravity on plants, including recent experiments conducted on the International Space Station.

As a professor in the Department of Environmental and Plant Biology in the College of Arts and Sciences at Ohio University, Dr. Wyatt specializes in studying molecular mechanisms of signaling in plant responses to gravity. This expertise has led her to focus on how plants react to changes in their environment caused by gravity changes or disruptions to their normal growth patterns.
