Man in the street attacks Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen: “Shocked by this incident”

In Copenhagen, Denmark, Mette Frederiksen, the country’s Prime Minister, was assaulted on the street by an unknown man. Reports from local police confirm that the attack took place at Kultorvet, a historic square in the heart of the city. The perpetrator has been arrested, but their motive remains unclear.

Copenhagen Police released a statement confirming the incident and stating that they have made an arrest in connection with it. However, they did not provide any further information or comments about the case.

Upon hearing of the attack, Danish Environment Minister Magnus Heunicke took to social media to express his shock at the incident and shared his condolences to everyone close to Mette Frederiksen. Other Danish politicians also expressed their horror at the situation and referred to it as an attack on democracy.

Mette Frederiksen has been serving as Prime Minister since 2019 and was recently campaigning alongside Christel Schaldemose of the Social Democrats party in preparation for upcoming EU parliamentary elections this Sunday. This incident follows a similar assault on Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico in Handlová earlier this week, where he was shot at and injured while greeting supporters. Despite sustaining multiple gunshot wounds, Fico is currently recovering.
