Richard Childress Racing announces new crew chief personnel change

Richard Childress Racing (RCR) recently made some competition personnel changes in preparation for their upcoming race at Martinsville Speedway. The team has appointed Justin Alexander as the new crew chief for Austin Dillon’s No. 3 team, taking over from Keith Rodden who had joined RCR and the No. 3 team at the start of the 2023 season. Additionally, Joel Keller has been appointed as the lead engineer for the No. 3 team.

Martinsville Speedway holds a special significance to Hendrick Motorsports, the winningest Cup team in NASCAR history. The team has a strong history at this track, with past victories from drivers like Geoff, Jimmie, and now Chase Elliott.

Keith Rodden will be transitioning to a more extensive role within the organization to help enhance the capabilities of RCR’s cars. Andy Petree, RCR’s executive vice president, stated that these organizational changes were implemented to support RCR’s NASCAR Cup Series program as they gear up for the rest of the season and aim to secure two team spots in the NASCAR Playoffs. Petree expressed gratitude towards Rodden for his leadership of Dillon’s No. 3 team while acknowledging his continued contributions in his new role within RCR.

Austin Dillon currently sits at 28th place in the Cup standings as he heads to Martinsville Speedway on Saturday afternoon. He has one top-20 finish so far this season, placing 16th at Las Vegas Motor Speedway earlier this month. Despite struggling early on in the season, Dillon is optimistic about these changes and looking forward to a strong showing in Martinsville and beyond.

Overall, these changes have been viewed by many as necessary steps towards success for Dillon and RCR’s NASCAR Cup Series program moving forward into what could be another exciting year on track!
