Public Notification: Ozone Action Day in Effect for Saturday, June 8 by Metro Health

On Saturday, June 8, 2024, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) declared an Ozone Action Day for the San Antonio area. This is the second Ozone Action Day of the year for the region, with atmospheric conditions expected to lead to elevated levels of ozone air pollution.

During these days, individuals such as young children, older adults, and those with respiratory issues like asthma are at a higher risk from air pollution and should limit their time outdoors. People with asthma or breathing difficulties are urged to stay indoors to protect their health.

Residents and businesses in the area are encouraged to take voluntary actions to reduce pollution and help maintain healthy air quality. This can include refueling vehicles after 6 p.m., avoiding drive-thrus at restaurants, turning off vehicles instead of idling, adjusting thermostats to higher temperatures during peak hours, carpooling or using public transportation, and combining errands to reduce trips.

The City of San Antonio Metropolitan Health District (Metro Health) is promoting these pollution-reducing activities to residents and businesses in order to improve air quality and conserve energy. For more information on ground-level ozone and how to help, individuals can visit the Metro Health website.
