Ran Carthon reveals: Calvin Ridley pursuit initially deemed a “pipe dream”

This month, the news broke that wide receiver Calvin Ridley was signing with the Titans, much to the surprise of many who thought he would go to the Jaguars or Patriots. General Manager Ran Carthon shared his astonishment at how things unfolded, stating that even the Titans hadn’t initially believed they could acquire him.

Carthon revealed that the team’s plan to get Ridley was more of a pipe dream due to budget constraints. However, with a couple of Titans players leaving for other teams in the opening hours of free agency, Carthon and head coach Brian Callahan began discussing making a push for him. After sleeping on it, they decided to go ahead and finalize the deal early next morning.

The swiftness of the move was highlighted by owner Amy Adams Strunk calling Carthon while he was still on another call with Ridley congratulating him on agreeing to join the team. Carthon praised the teamwork within the Titans organization for getting this done and expressed hope that it would lead to a successful season under Callahan’s leadership.
