Jon Stewart Makes a Comeback on Television with a Smaller, Older Audience

Since my last visit, the situation has taken a turn for the worse. When I last reported on this issue a month ago, I pointed out that the decline in linear TV viewership was not limited to “The Daily Show”. The data from Nielsen showed that multiple generations have stopped paying for TV altogether and are now turning to streaming services such as Netflix or social media platforms like YouTube and TikTok.

The trend is particularly evident among the youngest adult viewers. According to Nielsen’s data, prime-time TV and late-night TV viewership have decreased significantly since 2015, with the median age of TV’s remaining viewers continuing to rise.

It’s no surprise that these trends are occurring, but it’s still striking to see them laid out so clearly. It remains to be seen how Stewart and his fans will navigate this changing landscape.
