Joe Buck set to make MLB booth comeback, joining Chip Caray for Cardinals vs. Cubs game on May 24

St. Louis Cardinals broadcaster Chip Caray has announced that former MLB play-by-play announcer Joe Buck will join him in calling the Cardinals game on Friday, May 24 against the Chicago Cubs. The game will be broadcasted on the Cardinals regional sports network affiliate, Bally Sports Midwest. This news was first reported by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Joe Buck, who spent 16 seasons in the St. Louis broadcasting booth, will be returning to a baseball broadcast for the first time since the 2021 World Series. He and Chip are expected to honor their legendary broadcasting relatives, Harry Caray (Chip’s grandfather) and Jack Buck (Joe’s father). Jack called Cardinals games for 47 seasons, while Harry was the lead play-by-play for both the Cubs and Cardinals over his 53-year career. Both received the Ford C. Frick award for sports broadcasters in 1987 and 1989, respectively.

During the broadcast, Chip and Joe will share stories about growing up in broadcast booths and how their family members inspired their careers. Joe, who spent 26 years as Fox’s lead baseball announcer and called 24 World Series, recently took on a five-year deal with ESPN to be a commentator for Monday Night Football. While he’s not planning to return to baseball full-time, Joe has been open to special occasions like this one. The opportunity to call a game alongside Caray was particularly appealing to him.

The Friday broadcast promises to be an exciting one for fans of the St. Louis Cardinals as it marks
