Owner of Funeral Home in Morgan County Speaks Out After Radar-Confirmed Tornado Destroys Business

On Tuesday afternoon, a tornado touched down near Sunbright, according to the National Weather Service. Despite no reported injuries, several businesses, including Schubert Funeral Home, suffered significant damage from the tornado.

Billy Glen Kennedy, the owner of Schubert Funeral Home who has worked there for 40 years and owned it for the last 11 years, received a call from a friend informing him that the funeral home was gone. Kennedy expressed his shock at the damage caused by the tornado. Although he had heard a tornado warning, he did not think much of it as there was minimal wind or rain at his home just four miles away.

Upon arriving at the funeral home and seeing the devastation, Kennedy expressed gratitude that no one was hurt in the tornado. Despite the damage, he emphasized that material things can be replaced and that the safety of individuals is paramount. He noted that friends and the Sunbright community have offered their support, which he appreciates.

Kennedy mentioned that it is uncertain when the funeral home will reopen, but services will continue in Wartburg. He urged people to keep the community in their thoughts and thanked everyone for their support.
