TransDigm Finalizes $1.4 Billion Cash Acquisition of CPI’s Electron Device Business

TransDigm Group Inc. has completed its acquisition of the electron device business of Communications & Power Industries, a TJC portfolio company, for approximately $1.38 billion in cash. This strategic move was first announced in November and has now been finalized by TransDigm. To finance the purchase, TransDigm utilized existing cash reserves as well as cash proceeds from notes offerings.

With manufacturing locations in California, Massachusetts, and the U.K., the CPI electron device business is a manufacturer of electronic components and subsystems for the aerospace and defense market. The business employs around 900 people and generated approximately $300 million in revenue in the fiscal year that ended on Sept. 29, 2023, with 70 percent of that revenue coming from the aftermarket.

This acquisition will enhance TransDigm’s position in the aerospace and defense market, allowing the company to further expand its offerings and capabilities in this sector. Through this purchase, TransDigm aims to strengthen its market presence and continue to grow its business in the industry.
