Sewell announces federal funding to bolster maternal health services

U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell, AL-07, is hosting two press conferences today to announce $9.2 million in federal funding that she helped secure for the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Nursing and the Bessemer Police Department.

The first conference, taking place at 10 a.m. CST, will see Rep. Sewell present a check for $8.8 million over a five-year period from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Integrated Maternal Health Services Program to the Dean of the UAB School of Nursing and the Director of the Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) of Central Alabama. With this funding, the UAB School of Nursing will partner with the NFP of Central Alabama to increase access to maternity care and improve health outcomes for women and their families in the region.
