Blinken begins his European tour in Moldova

During his upcoming European tour, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken will first visit Chisinau, the capital of Moldova. The purpose of this visit is to meet with President Maya Sandu and other high-ranking officials. The trip comes amid concerns raised by US officials about Russian “influence operations” in the country.

Following his visit to Moldova, Blinken will travel to Prague later in the week to attend an informal meeting of NATO foreign ministers. The focus of this meeting will be on advancing preparations for the alliance’s summit in Washington in July. During his trip, Blinken will also discuss regional security issues and underscore the United States’ commitment to supporting democratic governance and energy independence in Moldova.

The discussions held during Blinken’s tour are expected to deepen cooperation on shared challenges and enhance transatlantic relations. In addition to Moldova, the United States remains committed to supporting its neighbors in the region in the face of external threats. As a result, Jim O’Brien, the top US diplomat for Europe at the State Department, has indicated that the United States is likely to announce a package to support Moldova’s energy independence during Blinken’s visit, although details were not provided. This visit highlights the ongoing strategic partnerships between the United States and its European allies in NATO.
