Waterford pulls off surprise win over Whiteoak to claim sectional championship | Latest News, Sports Coverage, Job Openings

The Waterford baseball team stunned the crowd on Wednesday evening, defeating second-seeded Whiteoak in a Division IV sectional final that went into extra innings. With two runs scored in the 10th, Waterford secured their victory and made history. Zavier Heiss, who came in to pitch in the ninth, was instrumental in shutting down Whiteoak with a scoreless 10th inning. Heiss took over for starter Colten Jones, who had an impressive outing, allowing just one run on four hits in eight innings, with four walks and six strikeouts.

Waterford’s offense also played a key role in their win, with Cole Hansell and Hayden Jones both contributing with doubles and RBIs. Braun Doak and Cole Sparling-Ponchak also had singles and scored a run each. On the other hand, Kaden Moone-Stone pitched all 10 innings for Whiteoak, allowing 10 hits, three runs and 11 strikeouts in the loss. Jacen Applegate had a double and drove in Whiteoak’s only run but the team committed four errors.

The upset victory for Waterford was a great achievement for the team and they will look to continue their success as they face off against 10th-seeded South Webster on Saturday at Paints Stadium in Chillicothe. The winner of this game will advance to the district championship game against either Reedsville Eastern or Trimble on Monday.
