WhatsApp Restores Service Following Global Outages – DW – 04/04/2024

On Wednesday, Meta Platforms-owned messaging service WhatsApp reported issues that affected tens of thousands of users worldwide. According to tracking website Downdetector.com, more than 24,000 users in the United States were impacted, while nearly 46,000 users in India reported problems. In the United Kingdom and Brazil, around 82,000 and over 88,000 users respectively experienced issues during the outage.

The problem was resolved over three hours later when WhatsApp announced that they were back up and running. This is not the first time that Meta Platforms-owned apps have experienced outages. Last month, Facebook, Instagram, and Threads suffered disruptions that affected hundreds of thousands of users. Despite these setbacks, Meta Platforms reported that during the fourth quarter of 23 almost 4 billion people were using at least one of their core products each month.
