William Carey extends winning streak to 11 games

William Carey University’s baseball and softball teams were congratulated by Hattiesburg Mayor Toby Barker on hosting the NAIA regionals. The baseball team has secured a spot in the NAIA World Series for the second consecutive year, with an impressive 3-0 record in the Hattiesburg Regional. They outscored their opponents 41-14 and are currently on an 11-game winning streak that began on April 20, culminating in a Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament championship.

Coach Bobby Halford, who has led William Carey to the World Series three times in his 39 seasons with the team, is eager for redemption after falling short in last year’s semifinals. The NAIA World Series is set to begin on May 24 at Lewis-Clark State in Lewiston, Idaho, with matchups yet to be determined.

As the No. 2 seed in the regional, William Carey faced off against Oklahoma Wesleyan in an intense Game 1, securing a narrow victory of 6-5. In Game 2, they dominated Milligan with a stunning 24-5 win led by Jake Lycette’s impressive performance. Despite upsetting Mid-America Christian twice, Milligan earned a rematch against William Carey which they won convincingly with a score of 11-4. RJ Stinson had an outstanding series with six runs, five RBIs and one walk.
