In January, underemployment among women in Mexico rose

According to the latest report from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi), women in Mexico’s labor market were underrepresented compared to men at the beginning of the year. Despite this, in January, female workers were seeking to work more hours. The number of underemployed individuals in January was 4.16 million, representing 7.1 percent of the employed population, with a slight decrease compared to the previous year.

In addition to this, unpaid work is another issue highlighted in the monthly report from the National Occupation and Employment Survey (ENOE). Women were found to be engaged in unpaid work at a higher rate than men, impacting their access to the workforce. This is due to what is known as the “reproductive tax,” which refers to the unpaid work done by women in their homes, reinforcing traditional gender roles.

However, there are also positive trends emerging for women in Mexico’s labor market. The report notes that there was an increase in female workers looking for additional work in January, with many having upper secondary or higher education levels. This suggests that women are becoming more interested in pursuing full-time careers and challenging traditional gender roles.

Finally, various forums were listed with topics ranging from online betting and casinos to mobile gaming applications. Topics covered included security concerns related to online betting and choosing the best mobile gaming app for enhancing user experience. Users discussed their preferences and concerns related to these topics.

Overall, it appears that while there are still challenges facing women in Mexico’s labor market, there are also positive trends emerging as they seek greater equality and opportunities for full-time employment while balancing caregiving responsibilities at home.
